Service Levels at Restaurants

Do waiters deserve at tip?

Restaurants, and the general social trend, would have you believe that a tip is more than earned, it’s expected.  If you go to a restaurant and you get sub-par service, you are the bad guy if you refuse to tip or if you tip only a small amount.

For some reason we’ve gotten to the point where the restaurants have convinced everyone that they can pay their staff a lower wage because they will make up for it on tips.  That might be so.  However, the fallacy is put into light when you have bad service and are still expected to tip.  Basically, it’s your fault as a customer if someone can’t take enough money home to live, because they didn’t provide good enough service…

Is it just me, or does this not add up?
