9/11 - Remember It

9/11 - LibertyAs time goes on it becomes easier to forget the tragedies that surrounded us just a few short years ago.  I hope that we don’t ever get to the point that we marginalize the events that unfolded on the morning of September 11, 2001.

Regardless of your political affiliation, you have to realize that an attack on American soil of that magnitude was a large step forward for a terrorist organization.  It won many converts abroad and strengthened extremist positions, while weakening moderate positions, throughout the Middle East.  That is not a good thing for anyone, the US, Europe, or even the Middle East itself.

Here in the US, on the homefront, we have to remember why that day was important.  We have to remember that it is one of those days that fundamentally changed the psyche of this generation of Americans.  We are different because of 9/11.

Do we sit around an let our enemies strengthen?  No.  Whether the way we are going about it is right or wrong will be decided by future events.  We can’t tell yet.  What we can take comfort in is that we are doing something, and that no major terrorist event has happened on US soil since then.

There are heavier questions that need answering that surround Iraq and our foreign policy, but one thing we have to do is remember that the US will get through this if we act together and remember the repercussions of ignoring extemists worldwide.
